Name: Michael Bateman
Location: Kingston, WA
Quote: "First we're going to give you a fair trial, then we're going to hang you."
Bio: I was "recruited" to this club by Scotty Menezes in the very early '90s. I was on contract to the FAA through Raytheon, and he was an FAA employee. We met in the parking lot as we were both riding bikes to work, and he recruited me to help him at the track with his own race program. I helped him and a cast of many other riders from about 1990 or 1991 through '97 as mechanic/pit help.
At one point Tim Fowler, Bobby Hawbaker, Simon-Pierre Smith and John Bundy recruited me to vintage racing on 160s at a Spokane race with the classic line - "wanna try it? First ride's free - and we have a spare bike. You can enter tomorrow...." I've had a blast racing 160s and now 175 vintage bikes with a great group of guys/gals since then, winning several championships and a whole lot of great memories. I now race exclusively a Honda 175 in 160 vintage, though TimO and I are talking about getting back into 125gp racing as well as starting a vintage AMA superbike class.
I was the rulebook editor for many years, and I've been a vintage tech inspector for quite a few years as well. I've also been pit steward a few times, mostly for endurance races. This year I've agreed to take on Referee duties. I have agreed to be the Referee for at least the next couple of years at least as I feel that it's a position that needs stability. If anyone thinks they'd be a good referee I'm more than happy to start your training now...
I figure I've only got something like 25 or 30 more good years of racing left in me, so I plan to make the most of those limited years. Though I reserve the right to re-evaluate that statement 20 or so years from now.
