View Full Version : Medical Form in Leathers
Another issue that came up as a result of my incident pertains to the location of the med form.
Is there a way that cornerworkers, medics, etc. can be educated with regard to where these forms are typically located? For some reason, people on the scene of the accident failed to locate them. Vanson leathers have a handy little pouch right behind the zipper where the form can be kept and this is where my form was.
As a result, my parents who live across the country recieved a harried, ominous phone call trying to find out my blood type (which they didn't know). Other information about what was going wasn't available as the scene was still playing out so I can only imagine how disturbing that must have been to them.
I vaguely recall being asked where my forms were, what my blood type was, etc. but it was hard for me to communicate at that time. I do remember telling them my blood type, but I couldn't understand where my form have been and why they couldn't find it. I just assumed that I must have screwed up at some point and removed it, but days later my colleagues found my form sitting right where it belongs.
How can we let people know where to look for our forms? Most leather manufacturers have some kind of pocket where this information can be kept, but the workers on the scene need to know where to look.

Good point...I don't think Liz will have a problem adding it to her bright and cheerie morning speech at the Corner Workers meeting in the morning once she hears/see's this post! As with yours...my leathers have an inside breast pocket for carrying mt flask...I mean, my medical forms. Riders know where they are...it just hasn't been mentioned for awhile to the corner workers!!! Glad your feeling better...take care,

Ping your rider rep to bring this up at the next eBoard meeting. Once it's brought up at the eBoard meeting, the director or 2nd VP will definitely followup with the medical staff about it at the track.

Hey Cogs, good point on the medical form but most importantly great to hear from you.
Post a little update about how you're doing when you have a chance or feel up to it. I know a lot of people are thinking about you and would love to hear about your progress.
Take care and hope to see you soon!

Very interesting. They are supposed to type your blood anyhoe if they need to give it to you.

Yes, all these procedures were followed (I didn't get any transfusions until I went into surgery anyway) everyone did a great job with taking care of me and I thank eveyone profusely; we were just surprised that apparently the workers didn't know where to find my med form and it created a little extra stress at the scene.

Yup I can understand about being surprised. I'm sure it'll be corrected now.
But for me even if they had my med form...still wouldn't know my blood type. It's O- until they find out I guess.

It would be helpful to know where med forms are kept, but are all leathers the same? I have found most med forms quite simply as have the medics that I have been on site with.
All riders should have a copy of there medical forms kept at registration. If forms can not be located on the person (which they should be), then I feel that the forms at registration should be utilized instead of questioning the family. It was very unfortunate that the family was called. At the last round I was told where these forms could be found.
Also regarding blood type, most of the forms I have looked at have a question mark (?) for the blood type.

Most insurance companies won't pay for blood typing when you just got to the doctor's office for a check up or what not. And they have to type you anyhow before they give you blood to make sure and they can do that in the box.
So really...having the blood type on a med form doesn't really do anything.
With WERA we don't have to have any medical form on file because I suspect it really doesn't help anyone out. But I'll leave it to someone in that field to know better or not.

Would it be feasible to put a copy of everyone's medical form sorted by rider # in a portable tote that could be kept in the ambulance? Not the best solution I'm sure but perhaps a decent back-up when the forms cannot be found.

The forms are at registration in a portable tote. All it takes it a switch to channel 2 or 3 and a simple question to registration.

Just off-hand, I thought I remembered someone walking around the pits with the medical form in a pouch (clear vinyl) with black leather trim on the chest of their leathers.
Thought that seemed like a good idea.
Kinda looked like a luggage ID badge sewn on front maybe?

Probably me, I might have some extra pouches in the garage. I'll toss them in the trailer and bring them to Spokane for anyone who wants them until I run out.

I used to have my blood type written on the back of my helmet. Beats me if it would make a difference. It hasn't been there since I destroyed the old helmet. Maybe it's time to put the information back on the newer helmet(s).

On the track the back of the helmet gets used alot.

On that note, perhaps every member should be required to fill one out online. We do have access at the track in some form? Or previous to a race all registered riders med forms would be dl'd to a flash drive and taken to the track. I'm sure there's a lap top there somewhere.
Members are responsible for the upkeep of said medical forms upon renewal of club membership, or when any information changes following the renewal of membership.

In paper form at the track in the filing cabinet at registration should be good enough.
What do Paramedics do when they work on you in a car wreck? They somehow manage.

this will be fun,
"In paper form at the track in the filing cabinet at registration should be good enough."
Is it more cost effective and environmentally sound to use paper or flash drive?
