Well, I get to update all of you on what happened after John left the track yesterday. Huge thank yous to those who helped us get his bike and gear into the trailer. I could not have done it without you all.
Xrays and a cat scan of the wrist and hand showed that it was not quite the simple fracture we were all hoping for. John managed to dislocate 3 bones in his hand in addition to breaking at least 2 of them. Damn. They then scared the hell out of him by telling him to go to Harborview and see a hand specialist immediately so he would not lose the use of his hand. Harborview got him in quickly and then the waiting began. The ortho guy ( Matt) did a great job and relieved us of some of the mounting fears.
Long story short...They admitted John about 1 this morning and they are trying to get him in for surgery asap. The fractures could not be reduced because of the swelling. He will give you all the gory details when he gets home and can type them one handed.
He is bummed to say the least. I am taking him his cell phone later today and I know he would really appreciate a phone call.
Thanks to all of you

hey all, thanks for the well wishes. I should get surgery today and hopefully be home tonight or tomorrow.
I will then be interviewing for an apprentice boat mechanic. Email if you're interested (seriously).
Thanks to everyone for your support and help. I'll post more later, this one handed typing is infuriating.

Just called Kaiser's wife and John answered. He is out of surgery and in recovery. Sounded a little loopy (even for Kaiser, haha) but said the surgery went very well. Hoping to be discharged tonight. Happy Mother's Day, Albertina! Nothing better than 36 hours in the hospital. What a good wife. :)

He is home safe and sound. He is staying up for a bit downstairs making sure the eggs and toast are staying down before he goes to bed. 36 hours with no food, only an iv, little sleep and lots of pain do wonders for the body. I am sure he will catch up with you all later on. Thanks for all your good wishes. It has meant a lot to him to read them pre surgery.
See you all soon. He may not be racing in Spokane, but we will see you all at he next Pacific round. Not sure if he will be riding or watching and gritting his teeth.
I am off to bed... it is my turn for some rest

Yep, you're both right. I only have myself and my eternal ambition to finish in front of Bracket to blame for that crash. On the two previous laps the bike told me I was asking for something it was not prepared to deliver. Never the less, I pressed it just a bit further and was made to pay for it, big time. I'll post a full report soon, but there's no doubt about the crash. I took a calculated risk and lost.

John, so sorry about the injury. I was working corner 9 and saw all three "events."
For what it's worth, it appeared to me to be happening in exactly the same place the first, second, and third time. Don't know if that will help as you replay if over and over in your memory. (And my angle wasn't perfect, so maybe it wasn't in *exactly* the same place each time...)
Also, you really were charging for position! It was awesome to see.
Best wishes for a complete recovery,
...Tom

Yep, I know it.. In that spot the track changes camber and goes from positive camber to negative camber. If you're rolling on the throttle there, already at the limit of traction, it'll feel like someone just pulled the track out from underneath your bike. I knew this, but tried to press it anyway, learn from my mistake.
