I've been reading through this forum and others and I'm just trying to figure the best way to get into racing.

I've been in Europe in the Air Force for the last 4 years and I'll be spending a year in Honduras before I come back to the Seattle area for good. I've been riding for about 4 years on various bikes (EX500, 600F2, Aprilia RS250, Ducati 996) but I've never done a track day or any schools.

I don't currently have a bike, had to sell the 996 and RS250 since I'm going to Honduras and we aren't allowed to have vehicles there.

I've got a truck and a 8.5x20ft enclosed trailer back at my parents house, so I'm set there, I just need to pick the bike. I've still got all my leathers and other riding gear in excellent condition. I'm thinking possibly 03 600RR, or maybe GSXR600, or something else. Does anyone else have any reccomendations? I'll probably end up going with whatever I can find somewhat locally for a good price with an assortment of spares.

How should I approach getting my WMRRA license? I would like to be very active and run as many races a year as I possibly can but I don't know where to begin. I've heard from some people that I should do a track day first, and I've heard from others that it's a bad idea, and I should go straight to a school. Any opinions on this? I saw that the California Superbike School comes to PR, should I just go with a locally ran WMRRA school?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to minimize mistakes and money wasted in the beginning, because that just means less money to spend where it matters.

Thanks,
Jason

How you go about it is up to you and your checkbook$$$ If you can do a school and you're serious about racing, then go that way. Jason Pridmore, Freddie Spencer, Keith Code, and Kevin Swantz all have good classes. Locally Mike Sullivan has a great school. As for bike, get what you can afford and what you feel good being on...If you attend a school, most of those can provide a race license, if no school; then WMRRA has a class you can attend to obtain a license and get started...Enough said..Good luck...

Well, I'll attend a school no matter what, I was just looking for a reccomendation on a good local one. Although I guess I wouldn't mind traveling somewhere for a Keith Code school.

Thanks for the info!

don't know when you're going to honduras, but american supercamp will be in seattle first weekend of may. it is in the dirt, flat-track style (bikes provided) but applies directly to roadracing also. that with jason and reg pridmore's school (have bike rental) would be the best combo for the money in my book.
