Anyone running a MyChron Lite this weekend? I don't know whats up, but i got funky readings all weekend - lap times of 7 - 9 min or even 28 seconds. How do we know who puts the beacons out and how many are out there. Anyone else have problems? Maybe i have mine on wrong or set up wrong - but it was really pissing me off... any ideas ?

I run a MyChron and when the beacon was up on Saturday I was getting proper times. There is some setting about max possible time. What is yours set to?

I use the ultra lap xt timer and was loving it saturday until the mid afternoon hail storm. I don't know if the beacon was pulled down or took a dump but that was the last lap times I got, even sunday had nothing.
We are looking at getting our own ultra lap beacon so that doesn't happen again. I think they are backwards aim compatible so it may work on the microns too.

The AIM timers will with the XT beacon but not the XT beacon when the beacon is setup for split times.

At one point i did run a 1:28:43 .... and for being on the track a totall of 3 times i thought i was either destined for stardome or somethin was screwy.
I also have my own beacon but figured there would be enough out there. Is there any way to some how coordinate who puts what where and how we should program our timers for split times or disable them or something before track days and race days?? Are they usually set up by start finish or just kinda all over the track? I'm hoping i didn't buy a funked lap timer and something just need to be fixed. I will be at the Saturday NESBA and possibly the next 2-Fast - anyone who has a Mychron or is in some way involved with putting up the beacons interested in meeting up with me and makin sure things are set up right on those days?? I want to improve my really slow lap times but it's hard when i only get 3 or 4 readings that SEEM acurate for the whole day.

i'll be at the entire NESBA weekend and I have an AIM beacon for the MyChron so stop on by my pit and lets check that puppy out.
Look for a white bronco towing a small ass enclosed trailer (5x10). I also have a blue easy up.

Thats a big Ten 4 good buddy.

The normal situation is for someone to put up one and only one beacon, and it's usually on the wall in front of the grandstands at the first part of the front straight (between the bus stop and the chute). I think that spot is chosen because it's easier to access than the wall out by start/finish.
The reason only one beacon is used is because most of the lap timers owned by WMRRA members are the older style which don't support split times, and those timers get totally confused if they see more than one beacon. I know the guys with newer split-enabled timers would like to use that feature, but I don't think anybody has yet figured out how to do that without confusing the more common older style timers.
As for who sets out the beacon, there's no formal process. I usually just go out for the first session with my timer turned on and see if it picks up a signal. If it doesn't, I go look at the wall where the beacon is usually set up to see if somebody put one there that isn't working (dead batteries or whatever) or if nobody has set one out yet. But that's pretty rare -- 90% of the time the signal is found and I don't have to know who had set it out.
More often than not, when you have a problem it will be due to your onboard timer as opposed to the beacon. If you're getting funky lap times or no lap times, ask racers in neighboring pits what they're getting to figure out if the problem is just you or not. If it's just you, make sure your timer's sensor is pointing to the right for Pacific or to the left for Spokane, and that it has an unobstructed sight line while you're riding. (I've seen more than a few which are blocked by the rider's forearm while tucked, etc.) If the problem is just you and your sensor is pointed the right direction and isn't blocked, consider the batteries inside your sensor. I had weird results for a few weeks before I figured out my batteries were live enough to make the display look normal but too dead to recognize the beacon signal correctly.

Awesome! thanks for the detailed info, i can't wait to get out there again. I'm sure my lap times will be much faster with a properly working timer! ;-)
