I just got in a HRC ECU and software for the 2008 CBR1000RR. It has some Anti Spin and Traction control features on it that I'd like to test out.

So if you have a bike and want to play around with it, maybe even purchase it once we are done, let me know.

Dave please post up when you get results. This bike is on my short list for next year. If yours flusters nico that much think what an 08 would do?

Did you get to try your bike out yet? Hope you get to ride it this weekend in front of that number 20 guy.

Thats right, I actually looked at buying it from him. Wait, maybe it wasn't him. Can't find the thread now.

Will do. Do what I am doing and hold out until the 09 comes out. The 2008 has had some teething problems.
In Nico's defense, he is on a 750 and he's slow.

It will really fluster him now with its new found glory. Just put it back together last night and will be riding it on Saturday!!! :dancingchili:

The fact that I was on a 750 and all over you should tell you that you're slow. :P

Just be happy Im too scared to ride 1000's. :D

I know! Not fair.:crazy2:

Well, lets do a power to weight ratio and then we'll see if it works out. :dancingchili:

Doesn't DeGross have an '08?

Ah, ok.

Something that I've wondered for a long time - How does the HRC/YEC stuff compare to 3rd party stuff like Bazzaz?

Depends on who you ask.

The BDP and Power Commander stuff is much more user friendly but does not give you the depth of control the Factory KIT stuff does.

Example: the 2007 HRC ECU can make changes to the HESD (Damper) Ignition Timing, Fueling, Ignition timing per gear, etc.

The BPD can not do the HESD or the Ignition but it can make changes in real time without stopping the bike, making changes, uploading the map, then restarting like you have to do with the HRC ECU.

On Marks bike, EDR used a combination of the 2. The BDP for fuel and the HRC ECU for Igniton timing.

This is a very basic answer. You really have to look at each software package to know them and what they can do.

My personal opinion is the Kit stuff, albeit not as user friendly, is better once tuned properly as it was/is designed by the same guys who make the race bikes. Its designed to replace the Standard ECU and is not a "Piggyback" system that essentially "Tricks" the bike into making the changes.

I had a long an interesting talk with the Bazzaz people at their booth at Laguna last weekend. After reading the cover article in Sport Rider this month I was really interested.

What I liked about the Bazzaz unit was the ability to use a wideband O2 sensor to tune the bike yourself without a dyno. However, it's not, according to the guy, automatic. Basically, you go for a ride, come back in, and check the AFR map, which gives you a table of your air fuel ratios at all rpm and throttle position. You see the areas where it's running rich or lean, adjust accordingly, repeat until it's right. It's still pretty cool, but not quite automatic.

What's the price of the HRC kit stuff? The entire Bazzaz package including handlebar adjustment switch, quickshifter, and traction control was about $1500 as told to me at the track, but now on their website it looks like it's more like $2900.

It might have jumped in price due to availability. When I got Bazzaz for my R6, I got it for about the $1500 you mentioned, but was told I had to pay pronto to lock it in as there were only two units left for sale in the nation. Dunno if that was two just for the R6, or two total, tho.

I follow a different tuning philosophy. "Tune to best power and engine smoothness" like www.FactoryPro.com I had Marc Salvisberg tune my first HRC ECU this way. Not to the mythical A/F ratio. This method requires a dyno, no self tune unless your butt dyno is really accurate.

The new 2008 HRC ECU that has Traction Control and anti spin, dual modes, etc, is only around $400 bucks. But then you need the $375 cable to tune it or borrow one. So for the 2008 CBR1000RR, its cheaper, but still, not nearly as user friendly as the BDP stuff.

How do the TC bits compare?
