Some new News on SRP
Dear racing fans!
Thus far the judge's recent decision to approve the sale of the SRP and other real estate has not been challenged by the Moe's.
We are moving forward. I will sign the closing papers on behalf of the County tomorrow afternoon; making our ownership official! I am not suggesting that further challenges won't occur, but we will take those when they do.
Due to the loss of several weeks, and the additional time it would take to agree on contract terms for a short term operator that would widdle away at the 2008 season, we have shifted gears in how the facility will be run.
Spokane County will bring a couple of experienced temp employees to work for our Parks Director to assist Doug in running the facility and renting events for the rest of the year 2008.
It is our hope to bring back the Friday Night Drags for kids as soon as possible, and to lease (Board approved lease contract to be used today and you will read all about the continued grilling from our nay-saying commissioner in the morning paper) on a first come first serve basis, leaving some room for Sheriff training.
I cannot help but to continue being amazed that this incredible race park, regional ball fields and training center is being obstructed by the commissioner who serves the West Plains where this is located, while the Mayors and councils, businesses and citizens from the West Plains cannot wait for the great things to come. Anyway....
We will prepare and advertise an RFP for a long-term operator to occur no later than October of this year; hoping to gain interest from those willing to partner with the County on making some of the needed repairs to make this facility what it has the potential to be, in exchange for a long term contract to operate.
Clean up of the facility is now scheduled for the September 7th starting at 8:30 AM. These efforts are being coordinated by Scott Adare, (big thank you Scott!) of Adare Racing School and he can be reached at fosrp@aol.com. Scott, if you have better contact info, please send reply email.
Thank you all for your continued interest and support for these efforts. We could not do it without you. Please help us see it through to reality!
Sincerely,
Mark Richard
