Just keep the bike upright for Novice. :)

The first novice race last year was in the rain and as Hypnotic says, the goal was just to tool around and finish, which I did. Think I ran times in the 2:15 range but it didn't matter.

Get rain tires! You won't have any fun "racing" in Seattle if you're not ready for the wet because you'll never be on the track!

I was totally freaked out by the rain. I was a Fair Weather Rider, originally from North Carolina, and didn't have that much wet experience. My first track day last April was raining it;s butt off! I was scared as hell almost pissing in my leathers. I was on Brand new Pilot Powers. I came back amazed at how much traction there is in the rain even on a good set of DOT's. It's all about being smooth I think. Obvioulsy doing track days at Pacific, I was able to gain much more rain experience and now I am pretty well used to it and kinda enjoy it actually.

If the budget will allow, pick up some rains...they friggin rock! Able to drag the knee in the wet! My race partner picked up a set of takeoffs on EBay for $100 bucks and they are in great shape. I got a set at Pacific...they were the previous years model (new) and I got a great deal. There is also always somoene selling something at the track..I saw lots of really great looking rains for sale...some had only 5 laps on them!! I found that most of the really good deals are toward the end of the season.

See ya out there.....Remember..we only need 6 heats of safe riding to graduate!

Yeah 6 heats and then I have to go get run over by Sully, Eli, Ross, and Kevin. LOL

I wouldn't believe that if you are doing 2min laps and are on a newer 600 that the race director would let you out on the track in the 600SS race. You would be a danger to yourself as well as to the other riders.

Yes you do need 6 heats, with no DNS/DNF's to graduate.

As far as riding in the rain I discouverd just how fast I could really go just on street dot's and was amazed. If you look at Roger Lee, and Tommy Hayden they are both very good in the rain their whole thing about riding in the rain is being smooth, no jerky movements with the throttle or jamming on the brakes. I'm looking forward to racing with rains this year.

Yeah...2min laptimes is pretty friggin slow..Not sure how that worked out for that guy...After I had a few rain days under my belt, I kept going out with Expert/Racer group on track days and my lap times were still pretty good.

If you look at novice laptimes for 04/03/2005, you will notice there were very few riders that broke a 2 minute lap. This was the first time I had even
ridden the 1991 F2 that I bought and I was on Pilot Powers so there were many issues to overcome. Plus being that it was so wet, it just came down to not crashing.

Eli Edwards best time for reference that day in 600SS was a '38. Normally he is sub 30's.

That is par for the fast guys about 6-8 seconds a lap slower in the rain!

Well that wet day in april I was doing 2:15 was my best on Pilot Powers, my best on race dots is 1:40.3 which I'm hoping to improve upon this year.

Cool man...the fastest I was able to go on Pilot Powers with a crappy 120/60 front was 1:37 following Wendy Kristen Leber. Man is she fast. I had to give it all I had just to keep up!! And she was still perty far ahead!!

And yes...IT IS GONNA BE FUN!!!!

Yeah I don't even try to follow Wendy she just kicks my ass.
