I am an ex-motocrosser and am wanting to get a streetbike. I want a bike that I can ride on the street and enjoy the sunny days of Wash. with but I also want a bike that I can take to track days and enjoy and not feel limited or that I dont have the right machine for the job. I was thinking either a cbr600, r6, or somehing compaable. I want to spend $3-4,000 dollars if possible. What bike would you suggesst? Any places that I should look in particular? What year should I get that would be usefull yet not to ancient? Where would I find a bike that has been wrecked or salveged that I could get for pretty cheap and do the work myself? My friend wrecked his bike and the insurance company offered it to him for $800 bucks. Granted he said it needed about $1700 but hat is still way cheaper then $5-6000 for a 2002 f4.

Any help is appreciated.
It must get tired hearing the same thing but I knew if anybody would know, it would be you gys. thanks again.

Try all the local shops, they usually have some late model used bikes around. Also ebay maybe a good place to look. I'd probably go no later than 99' on a bike. Better to stay with some good teched bikes...Hope that helps

Or go to the "racebikes for sale" section of these forums. There's a damaged R6 there which looks like it might be just the thing.

I'm a honda fan - anything post 2000 should get you in the price range. I've seen lots of good deals on craigslist.com and also cycletrader.com. Dont buy sight unseen, just check out the local stuff, I think bike shops and dealers will charge you way to much. Just my 2 cents.

(i had a 2000 CBR929rr for my first bike - a little big, but very forgiving and very comfortable, plenty-o-power too, I loved it, but some jack ass stole it and killed himself on it.. se la vi.)
