It seems that the only way to get one is from a previous racer. Is there some place to buy one up here or at the event? How much does it cost to rent one at the event? Any help would be great.

you can get them directly from the manufacturer - Digital Timing in Livermore, CA. Tel# (925) 454-5347 .... I suggest you get the leather punch, too.

You can rent them from WMRRA when you register for the race day/weekend, there's a limited supply and it's free... but you have to put down a credit card and if you bust it you buy it.

Keep your eye on the OR forums. OMRRA is moving to use AMB so most of the racers (those that dont race WMRRA too) will be selling their units (or trading them in). Worth trying...thats how I got mine.

Rental is free for first year Novices only. There is a $30 rental fee for everyone else along with the $200 damage deposit. I will be asking the Registration Crew to be more strict on this policy - last year people got away with returning some really busted up transponders - if it's not returned in a condition where I can re-rent them then WMRRA will keep your deposit.

That's good news. Are there going to be enough for all of us or is it a mad scramble to get one the morning of the event?

I think we have about 40 and they are first come first serve so with 30 plus Novices and whatever handful of Expert racers that we get renting it would probably be a good idea to make that one of the first things you do in the morning. In the last two years I haven't seen it be a problem but...

I'll try and take a poll at the classroom session to see who will need to be renting and if it looks like it will be an issue.

There is a guy named Dave at Competition Motors here in Washington. I have his number somewhere. Will try to find it. In the meantime, you can go to dbcom's website, call their number and they will give you Dave's.

They sell for $195, and $21.95 for the pouch.
