ClimaCover Racing scores big in Utah, Corey Baum takes 2 podiums in his first WERA National

WERA racer Corey Baum entered his first WERA national race this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. Weather was questionable all weekend with both hot and cold temperatures as well as rain on the Saturday morning practice. Baum, the Lacey, WA native, took the time to test his Dunlop shod GSXR 600 in the rain pulling low 2.30's in his few laps of practice. "Plenty of grip compared to what I'm used to racing on back home" said Baum. Sunday's practice was in the dry and Baum took the time to get settled on the bike in race conditions. With the bike having no updated suspension, fueling maps or slicks Baum knew he would have to be at his best this weekend, especially considering the races were only 4 laps, starting in 17th position of the grid was also something he would have to contend with for the races. Baum stunned most though, with even the corner workers shouting through the radios about how many bikes he was passing in each turn. Moving through the grid from the start and maintaining spectacular control in his first race Baum ended up taking second place in 600 Supersport. "A better grid position or one more lap and I have no doubt Corey would have won the race." mentioned one of his team mates.

Baum continued his streak by entering the 750 class on his stock 600 and clearly taking 3rd place. "Being down on power engine to engine I knew it would be a hard race, not to mention starting back in 12th position. Great racing the whole time!" Baum also entered in the 600 Superbike class but on the 2nd lap he was bounced out of his seat hard, smashing his helmet into his windscreen and saving a monster of a highside while attempting a pass for 4th place. Baum shook it off and chased down the leaders but didn't have the time left to take a higher position and finished a very commendable 5th place.

Baum, who has yet to complete his inaugural year in road racing, has enjoyed success in the WERA series this season with multiple podium finishes and is looking forward to the upcoming national races in Las Vegas on the weekend of the 28th.
