I just bought a 2000 XR650L with 9700 miles on it. Although it has an aftermarket muffler and expanded tank with pro handlebars, etc.
I am a little concerned about the chain and sprockets being caked over with grease and the rear fender getting mushy from exhaust heat.
I friend told me I need a exhaust defector shield and a SharkFin, does anyone know any online stores I can find that at?
How about good shops that now how to pull more juice out of this monster?
much appreciated everyone!

I just bought a 2004 XR650L. :D
I am looking to buy the larger tank as well. You could call Jeff Wieand @ Cycle Works Powersports in Renton. I am having him look into some stuff for me too so he might be able to help you out.

I built my 04 to a tard and it seem's fine with it's new suspension ,as for more power, all I did was a pipe and upped the main jet from a 132 to a 195 . And yes that IS a 650R

Okay, so a friend of mine is looking to buy and 'tard an XR650R. He wants it to be licensed for the street. Maybe you guys that are already involved in this game can help me out with a few questions:
1.) Recommendations for front-end/wheels/brakes that won't break the bank.
2.) Anyone know of a street-legal 650R for sale?
3.) How tough would it be to MAKE one street legal?
Thanks for any help you guys have.

CRF 450 front end would work great ,it takes a bit of machining , but well worth it.
Wheels......EBAY
Making mine street legal wasn't that hard as I bought mine in a box (brand new) and when i regied it as a street bike from new . All you have to do is meet all the requirments light's/hi an low, horn, signal's, morrors.

Your bike is about the sweetest thing ever, but, sadly, it's way out of his price range. Based off all the prices I've been seeing out there for these things, I'm afraid it's going to be a long time before he can afford to buy ANY 650R, let alone yours. Sorry.
