Hi, I just got an '87 Hurricane "project" that I'm going to put back on the street and I was wondering if any other stock triple trees or swing arms could be bolted onto the bike without any machining? F2, F3, or even another brand of bike? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something better than the '87 originals. Anyone have any experience hopping these bikes up?
Thanks!

The F2/3 triples will slip right in to the neck on the 'cane, but your steering stops will be totally different.
We did this mod during the summer, and we had to cut/grind the tab on the 'cane frame for the stops to work. Also, you have to modify the top of the bottom triple, where the stops radius down, because the frame will get in the way of the radius's on the triple.
Lots of rubbing, basically. Cut/grind until it fits. Everything else works fine. VFR triples fit, too.
For the swinger, you're stuck with stock, unless you own a machine shop/are independently wealthy. The 'Cane swinger is asymmetrical, and the F2 is symmetrical, so even putting in the wider wheel is going to be tough. I believe the F2 swinger is about 1" wider at the pivot than the 'cane.
Good luck!

Cool, thanks for the good info! Did you find that this was a worthwhile mod? I'm debating whether to do this or just put cartridge emulators in the stock 'cane front end.

Time and money are the constraints.
You get a 3.5" wheel, and full adjustablity with the F3, or you can keep the 2.75" wheel, with all of the fun and excitement of 37mm forks.
Racetech is cheap, but clicking in a little damping is cool.
I have not been able to ride the bike with these mods, but I have heard that it is a very good addition to the bike.
