I am not a member of WMRRA, yet. Just did my first track day yesterday at SRP(Spokane) on a CBR 1000RR. It was a blast, I'm in boys!!! Where do I sign?
I am working on a used SV 650 that has been raced 1 year and in primo condition. I figure that will be a good bike to start off on. I saw the races the last time WMRRA came to Spokane in May, and I think I want a little more experience under my belt before stepping up in cc's....
Talked to Mike Sullivan already, going to go through his entry race course.
Anyway, I'll see you guys and gals out there.

That's exactly what I'm planning on doing but not till next year (I'm in Iraq right now). But was it pretty easy to get up to speed on track etiquette? I mean did you get the hang of everything pretty quick? I can't wait to get home and go ride. My bike is calling me right now!

All the information you need to get started is on the New Racer Info page of the main WMRRA website (http://www.wmrra.com/newracer.html).

An SV650 is IMO the perfect starter race bike, and one that has already been raced is the best choice. Starting with the Sullivan school is probably the best way to get up to speed quickly. So you're definitely starting with good decisions already.

Make sure to read the rulebook (available on the website), and pay special attention to sections C & E when prepping your bike and sections J & K to learn procedures and etiquette.

And welcome to the fun!

Laps, laps, laps... The Sullivan school I think is the best around (from the locals I've talked to). Hit as many sanctioned, controlled track days as possible (complete with corner workers and meat wagon). Tail the fast guys for as long as you can, and mimic what they do - they kind of suck you into going faster. :D

I think the SV is a good choice, especially compared to the RR. I ride a ZX-10R, and wish that I could have learned (on the track) on a smaller bike. I don't think it would have taken me as long as it has to get as fast (or slow :o ) as I am. Though all that horsepower did teach me respect for the throttle!

Good luck, and have fun! (Be safe, too.)
