The good, All the fastest racers were the WMRRA guys:Mike Sullivan,Mark Gulin,Patrick Bertram,Tom Wertman.
The Bad, 4 Red flags in 600 superbike, causing some serious injuries.
Oliver Jervis : broken Leg. suposedly in two places
Tom Wertman: broken collarbone.
Jeff Seehorn: Supposedly broken pelvic bone.
Quite a few others too, but not sure of injuries.
I only say "Supposedly" because that was the word at the track, nothing official.
If you hear anymore updates or info , post em up please
Lets put out our prayers for these guys.

Geezz....that sounds like carnage!
Heal up everyone...its too early to end your 2007 season.
Tom Wertman: broken collarbone.
Jeff Seehorn: Supposedly broken pelvic bone.
does anybody know how they fell?
This is terrible. When more details or confirmation about Oliver's condition are available, a further posting (or PM) would be much appreciated, as he's a friend of mine and there are lots of other people up here in B.C. who support him and would want to know how he's doing. Many thanks.
My prayers and wishes for speedy recoveries go out to all of the injured riders.

conditions at Portland were wet wet wet - the hydroplaning on the front straight was pretty bad according to Sully. The class gridded and took off and made it through 1 and going into 2, 2 of the front riders bumped and crashed, Wertman tried to split the carnage and blipped the throttle and ended up highsiding. T3 was where Jervis highsided - the Pinkstaff family was reporting that he would be in Portland for a couple of days due to surgery on his leg, they were packing up his trailer for someone to take North. I'm not sure who has more news on him.
Bottom line is that it was just very wet out.

I just got off the phone with Dave Hosea (WMRRA #205) and good friend of the Jeff and his family.
Looks like the break to the pelvis was due to the femur being pushed up into the hip socket resulting in a broken pelvis, hip, and leg. He is in a Portland hospital and is doing well. He is awaiting surgery.

Sorry to hear about all the injuries. Hope everyone is going to be 100% OK!!
Keep us posted.
I was there on Sat for the endurance...decided at the last minute to leave and NOT participate in the sprints on Sunday. Sounds like I made the right decision...

I feel for all of these riders. Especially the ones that got injured, but even the ones that stayed upright. It was a hell of a weekend weatherwise and I got caught 45 minutes from my house on a street ride when the worst of it started. I can't even imagine racing in that.
I'm new and maybe this is a little naive, but... why do we race so early and late in the season? I mean, this is the Pacific Northwest. You race in March through May and you're going to get dumped on hard. A little rain is just racing, but hydroplaning down the front straight and broken pelvis bones obviously just isn't safe. I know it's kind of cramming it in there, but why not just start the season a little later, make the earlier and later races be the Spokane rounds, and compress the season a little into a shorter, more-likely-sunny time span like late May through early September? Is it because the tracks are busy with other things and we have to take what we can get? Like I said, I probably just don't know what actually goes on behind the scenes to figure these things out. And, hell, many people like racing in the rain. It just sucks hearing these injury stories every week...

The schedule is - as you can imagine - a complicated thing to get hammered out. Seasonwise there have been rain SEASONs with 1 or 2 dry races from what Louie tells me. And the injuries aren't isolated to rain days - the last WMRRA weekend was sunny and dry and still ended pretty badly for some. As a club, they do their best to minimize risk. As a racer, you have to decide how to minimize your risk.
Personally, our budget is stretched tight with the timing of the races now - if I had to run 2 race weekends a month for 4 months, it wouldn't be financially possible.
Mr Sunshine

Geddy this would be a totally new thread....the answer is...we do because if we didn't then we would get 1 or 2 weekends a year to race. Not enough tracks and too many people.
If that is your idea of fun then just sign up for 1 or 2 weekends of of the year.

Thoughts, prayers and best wishes to ALL those involved. Injured parties, families, friends and fellow racers.
This shows both the worst part of racing (crashing and injuries) but also the best part of racing (caring about your fellow racers).
Thanks for the updates. Keep 'em comin'. It's the only way some of us have to get information. Just make sure it's correct before posting. Nothing worse than mis-information.
Looking forward to Spokane and the holiday week-end. (and sunshine, maybe.)

Hey everyone - I'm Oliver's wife. Just wanted to thank you for your kind words and to let you know he's doing fine - lots of good painkillers. He broke both bones in his lower leg. The operated Sunday night and put in some pins and plates. He'll be at the hospital in Portland for another day or so at least.
My family's thoughts and prayers go out to the rest of the injured riders and their families. We wish everyone a speedy recovery.

I have so been there... Tell Oli that I said hi and to get well soon! We'll miss him at Mission.
Make sure they elevate and ice the leg if it starts to swell up; that's how I could have avoided my scar and skin graft.
A speedy recovery for all the other riders aswell.

Tell Mr Jervis his presence at WMRRA events will be missed.
WMRRA wishes him and all of the WMRRA riders a quick and full recovery.
We are all sorry to hear about the injuries. Not fun at all.
Our race staff is very concerned with our riders safety. We all worry about our injured racers.
However, Mr Jervis's prescence on the Lightweight Superbike Grid will NOT be missed. Thanks for allowing me to make a postion!!! Way to go buddy!!! I knew I liked that Canuck! (joking of course...;-) Now if I could just get the Border Patrol to detain that pesky imposter Sean Becker....
Please keep us informed about his recovery!

I just stopped by the hospital to visit Oli and Jeff. Jeff had just gotten out of surgery and was very groggy. The surgery went well and they put 2 plates and several screws to put the pelvis back together. The Femur and Hip socket and ball are all good and not damaged. Due to the dislocation of his hip initially, he should be good on no muscle damage since he is so muscular, it held everything together very well. I believe his mom told me he has a crack they left alone that will heal and the 2 bigger fractures they plated together.
Oli is doing well, they are working on how to get him home since he needs to keep leg elevated. He had compound fractures of his tib/fib. I don't know if they were all compound or what but there were breaks near the ankle and don't recall which one but one was also broke below the knee. so he has a nice titanium rod, a few plates and lots of screws holding it all together and as he put it, "its better than stock". :-)
I mentioned to him many of you sending your best wishes and get well soon notes which he plans to read when he has internet access back home.

Hey Guys,
I just returned home tonight from Portland. Surgery and recovery is going well so far. I think Justin had everything correct in his message. I broke my right hip socket/pelvis bone from my femur ball blowing through the back of my pelvis. On Wed. morning they did surgery and put two plates in and 12 screws holding those plates in place. My Doctor said everything went together well and was aligned perfectly after surgery.
Oli and I were only two rooms apart, but only got to see him once on tuesday when he was gettin wheeled around. I was in traction till Wednesday, when I got surgery so I couldn't go anywhere. We joked a bit and I actually challenged him to a wheelchair race when I got one after surgery, "Days of Thunder!" He seemed to be doing well and it was nice that he could stop by.
Many others from OMRRA stopped by to visit me and I greatly appreciate it. Theres nothing like having your friends and family there when you need them the most, thanks guys!
Ohh, What happened? I high-sided after the third start of 600SBK in turn 4. I just passed Mike in 3 putting up to second place and I overbroke a little for 4 so I got back on the gas a little too soon and spun-it-up. The bike spun and hooked up violently throwing the rear back to the right and pitched me to the right in front of the bike. I landed on my hip and knew it was screwed as I slided across the pavement to the inside of 5 in the grass, sceaming. I landed up on my face and couldn't breath so I turned over and knew my hip or leg was broken. It was the most amount of pain I have ever felt and I never had screamed soud loud in my life.
Everyone took care of me well and I look foward to geting back out there. Sounds like I will be out for 4 months, so I probably won't be on abike again till late september, so I am planning on selling my bike off this summer and getting an 08 next year.
Well Thanks for all your prayers and support and I will see you guys out this year as a spectator most likely.

Thanks guys. Things seem to be going well so far with my recovery. I am already noticing more movement back in my hip and leg and I can get around on crutches bettter everyday. Last night I made it out to my shop to take a look at my bike, looks better than I do. Bar-end, mast cyl., and a foot-peg should fix her up enough to race again. Too bad my bike took less parts than I did though, this sucks.
Later,

You know the (sorta) funny thing about this was Jeff's motor was apart for transmission work and he phoned up asking for a due date, and when I gave it to him he said "great I can make Portland". Which was news to me as I was thinking Spokane was my due date.. and from that time on the damn motor fought me the whole way. I actually called to see if he was really into going, which he was. I think his bike knew what was best - kinda like Fontana (ask Jeff)
