I just prepped a 1989 VTR250 for race and rode it this last weekend. I found a few issues with it, aside from the lack of power, but what do you expect for a 250.
I need or need to know where to get
race tires (fr 1??/70/16) ( R 120-130 /??/17)
rear sets
better brakes
anything else
Thanks

Rear tires will be easy, just get front take-offs, and turn them around. The story is that during the GS500's heyday that the front runners were running 120's front and rear. I'm sure that with the power and handling that you can get away with regular street tires up front, just because the bike is so light, and you probably aren't going to be pushing the front at any time.

ya I was thinking of doing just that but the thought of a sticky rear and hard front just did not sit well with me. I chewed on the street tires pretty good this past weekend and figured I shousld try to find race tires for this monster...:)

You should see if an old Hurricane front wheel would fit up there. They are 2.75" wide, and you can run a 110/70-17 front. I believe that at least Pirelli and Dunlop provide a tire in that size.
If you need dimensions, I will see if I can get some numbers off of the wheel that I have, the only tricky part is that the wheel is installed on a bike that is currently buried. Let me know if you want me to investigate this, and I will take a look at it.

Ya that would be cool if you could look at it... I would have to do a whole front end conversion though because the front brake on the vtr is an inboard disk... That would solve another problem of not having effective front brakes too.

I happen to have a set of forks for a hurricane, and I might have some other front end bits. They don't belong to me, so let me get a hold of the rightful owner of the parts, and I might be able to get you a package deal on forks and brakes.

Well, if theres anything I can do to help let me know. I actually came looking for you after the race to make sure I didn't spook you when I passed. I did think it was awesome you had that bike out there. Hope you had fun.Hell, instead of swapping the hurricane front end, you could probably buy the whole thing.

Naw you didn't spook me... That darn thing is so slow that I can look behind me and watch for you guys and stay outta the way.
I am used to being passed at high speeds...hell, I get passed by Sully, Eli and all those other guys all the time!! Anywhere on the track!!! So no, I wasn't scerrd. I just hope I was okay out there, cause I plan on running all season in that class if no one has a problem.

On the contrary, I wish more people would come out of the woodworks with the outdated bikes.
