I just realized that the young guns races have been pulled from the schedule of events and am wondering what the dilly is yo??? I personally was looking forward to seeing these guys go out there and get their race on, I had my opinions about the time crunches on race days however. Never the less, can some one enlighten me on the topic as I am sure others are curiouse as well.

Not at this time. It was explained in the general membership meeting as to why.

Well I couldn't make it... Can you provide a short summary... "not enough interest" would also suffice.

as far as I knew, it was only being postponed a few races...I was also unable to make it, so how about filling us in Chris! The feedback I have been getting from the kids' parents that are in the YoungGuns class is that there is a HUGE concern with regards to the kids not being able to practice AT ALL during the WMRRA weekend.

Expecting a kid that has never ridden at PR to just show up and race is unrealistic. Yeah, they can come out to the AF days, but its hard for most parents to shell out an additional $165 on top of other race costs. This is the main issue with the parents (and me).

If the Young Guns class doesn't pan out this year (which is what is looks like is going to happen), I can guarantee you that this class will be petitioned for starting this year for the 2008 season so that it may become a REAL class with actual practice for the kids...

The summary at the meeting was that there were insurance issues. Nothing more was discussed.

There was other issues as well such as one of the stipulations was that the Board would have an opportunity to watch these "Young Guns" at a track day before the event and they have yet to have had the chance.

Ok, since there is only partial information in here I'll post all of it (which was at the meeting.)

#1 - It wasn't canceled for the season. It was canceled for the May event.

#2 - The insurance issue is that at first when we asked our agent about it, they said that it wouldnt be a problem. When we asked for something in writing, he then told us that upon further review there would be an extra premium for event weekends that had the Young Guns on the track.

#3 - All Young Guns participants were required to be observed at Mario's track day prior to the event. The only person that had been observed thus far was Mario Alvarez II aka Lil Mario. Since the event required a min of 5 riders, only 1 rider had been observed, and no other AF event before the May event, the event was canceled for May.

There is still the open issue of the insurance premium that we need to work through for future events.

Hopefully we'll get to see Lil Mario and the rest of those guys out there this year. :)

Shit...just put him in with the novices. He's already running 1:50's which is excellent for the bike he is on. (Of course I realize this can't be done...just giving some props to Mario).

Nico is right on.

Prior to scheduelling the event, we had a couple of meetings with several interested parties and defined the process for our "Young Guns" exhibition.

Here are SOME of the MUTUALLY agreed upon criteria:

No race event practice sessions would be schedulled for the "Young Guns".

Each grid would cost the rider $25. Expressely as financial incentive to the WMRRA to host the exhibition.

Prior to the event, at an Adrenaline Freaks track day, the racers would be watched by our Race Director, Course Marshall and President to verify their skills.

All riders are to have current race license and experience in some form of motorcycle competition. These to be verified prior to the exhibition.

A minimum of 5 riders would form an exhibition.

The exhibition would consist of a total of 6 laps (including warm up) and would be held during the regularly sheduled lunch intermission.

If there are any race day schedule issues, the exhibition would be immediatley cancelled and all grid fees refunded.

The bikes would meet a specific "Young Guns" tech.

Further upon reflection the BoD made a few additional requests including but not limited too:

A meeting between me and the BoD to discuss the exhibition, WMRRA's liability, and other concerns regarding the exhibition.

WMRRA recieve written authorization to run the event from Pacific Raceways and our insurance broker prior to the exhibition.

When I contacted the insurance broker the SECOND time they changed their response and added a premium for the exhibition.

If we conduct the exhibition we have an additional $375 per event that needs to be dealt with. Or a total of $1500 over 4 weekends. It is not in WMRRA's current budgets to cover this additional expense.

Do to the fact that there is only one rider eligable to run at this time and
there is not opportunity to review any additional riders skills, I have postponed the exhibition.

If we can address these and other issues I hope to see the "Young Guns" exhibition later this year.

Thanks for the update. It will be a great program once the t's are crossed and i's dotted. As for running them in novice, leave us alone. We have enough to worry about without getting passed by 10 year olds on bikes with a <1/6 the displacement of ours. :D

I cant wait to see this get going. I really want to get my son, Brenden, involved in racing and hopefully when he gets old enought to participate all of the bugs will be worked out. It is hard enough just getting a kid the required "previously help race license".

"Young Guns" exhibition.

I thought it was a race and not an exhibition. I have heard countless times we can not do an exhibition which is why I thought this was a race.

I would suggest getting him a dirt bike and involved in one of the many off road race series.

All the young guns are gonna be required to have previously raced in one of the series.

That can still happen...just put Little Mario in the 300 level at an AF day and see what happens.

Chris, we don't have a 300 level, which I believe is 2-fast's racer group. We at AF have Group 1 which is racers only, but I'm not quite ready to have Little Mario in that group just yet. Remember, he has only done 2 track days and been on that bike just those two times. Lets see what happens midway through the season, then we'll talk.

With regards to the Young Guns Class. We definitely need to get this resolved as there are many parents that spent a shitload of $$$ to get bikes ready for this class including my self. This class is the stepping stone for the future of our club, which as much as many don't want to admit, these kids are the future of this club and I'm not just talking about Little Mario, there are a lot of other kids out there that are just waiting for the opportunity to ride.

There is no reason that as a Club, we can come together and agree on a solution as adults.

Cheers,

Mario

One way to resolve this could be the class fees covering the insurance bump. If the rates are $375 a weekend, and 5 racers sign up, the fee is $75 per racer per weekend. If 10 riders show up, it's $37.50. This way the insurance fees are covered, and everybody pays their way. If more riders show up, like 15, great, it's cheaper racing. The insurance is still paid, and everybody gets a great show.

I, for one, would love to see this club have three levels of race classes, with minis, the Young Guns, and regular racers. This could allow everyone's kids to be involved at all levels, and allow the parents to spend yet still more money on motorcycles. But, that's probably a bit much to ask right now, until we get the Young Guns thing worked out.

Sorry too many track day companies each with thier own labeling system.

Lets see...AF - Group 1, 2Fast - 300, Nesba - Advanced, Cascade - A

Also I'm not putting out any challenges here...he'll improve and eventually be faster than most if not all of us!
