Hiya folks.
I have a fun little story for you fine people and a question...but 1st, a little background.
I've been riding for just over 2 years now, year round almost daily.
Not a fancy ride, 83 Suzuki GS750E, obviously not state of the art...but she handles well for her age and still needs to be reminded the
posted speed limit on the highway is 100khm...yes, that's right...I'm an Canadian....Vancouver Island to be exact. :)
I'm not a racer...would love to learn...but as it stands, I don't know how...and I all to willing to admit that my bike...even with her low mileage and the fact she's in
good shape...she's not a race bike. :)
Enough about me though...
We have this guy in the office...I'm sure you know the type...world class rock/ice climber, motorcycle racer, Kali fighter, trials rider, diver...puts on a
cape and mask to fight crime at night...Just ask him, he'll tell you all about it...wont prove it, but he'll tell you.
His latest, motorcycle racer.
So good in fact, he as invite to the Ducati 300 in Washington...at that track...he forgets the name....you know...the bike track.
Did I mention he was soooo good, the nice people at Ducati are letting him race one of their brand new prototype race bikes.
He doesn't have to buy it, lease it...they will just hand it to him for the race...all 300 laps.
But wait, that's not all...
The people at Joe Rocket...such nice guys, are giving him...to keep...a tailor made race suit...being 5'2 off the rack is a bit of a problem.
And that's not all...it gets better.
Just for going to the race...those nice people at Ducati gave him a Dealership credit for $18,000.00...in USD no less....so about 25k CDN.
Now all this happened last September...of course, in the spring, it was to be this August...must be some wacky space time distortion thingy.
After I first was told this story, my internal BS Detector overloaded and caused me to stare blankly with no witty comeback.
Now for some odd reason, with that 18k credit just sitting there, he still rides (as long as there is not a cloud to be seen) a older GSX-R 600.
I'm not sure the year, twin round headlights and a very square rear end...but it has a rocket kit installed in the carbs???
I guess that's suppose to make him go way faster...it might...if he ever let go of his breaks.
He uses his breaks more than most minivan drivers.
I don't know if any of you have ever made it up to BC or even the island, but I'm fairly sure that northern WA back roads, are going to be like southern BC
back roads.
So here is my question...how common is it to not use your breaks on these roads...barring of course, running into a minivan/Volvo convoy. :)
Because I almost never do, rarely even need to use my gears on some of these roads...and I'm not riding like a granny either...if it says 70Khm, I'm probably
doing 80-90ish, and I can go down to 60 with out needing to gear down. How common is this??? I understand that bikes will vary that to some degree.
I find it hard to gauge myself seeing most of my friends ride cruisers or tourers...its fine on the straight bits...but when it comes to corners...I find myself riding solo
more often if its a twisty road. :)
Sorry for the long long post....its been a slow day at work. :)
