'01 R6 Race preped. I want to ride Track Schools and Track days with this machine.
Im a 'B' rider.
Bike is new to me. I used my 'street' bike for prior schools.
What tires should I be mounting?
What gearing for P.I.R. should get me close.
Im asking because Im picking up the bike Saturday. Its out of Salt Lake City, and I have No Idea whats the gearing is on the bike.
Its only a month away fron Track School. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Thank you!

First, it's PR unless you plan on going to Portland to ride PIR. :)
I can't speak much to gearing but an important question is what sort of motor does it have? Stock? Supersport? Superbike? That will determine gearing to an extent.
Tires? Well, unless you're running sub 40's, I think you're fine to use Pilot Powers/Dunlop Qualifiers.

Nope he means Pilot Power's the street tires. They are much more capable than you may think.

Portland...I'll check with some guys down there who run 600's.
Nope, I was talking about the street tire. Honestly, tires today are way more capable then the riders. If you really don't feel comfy doing that, find the top 5 guys and get their take offs. They change their tires far sooner than anyone else and will have the best wear (in most cases). You need to find out what tire works best for YOU. Tires are like religion. Everyone will tell you X brand is the best. The thing is, you can't just jump from tire to tire to find out. You need to spend a few races/track days getting the suspension setup and really feeling out the tire before you'll start to discover what you like/don't like.
If you're still relatively new to the track, my opinion is, there is a lot to learn before tires become too much of a concern. I'd pick a tire, get the suspension set, and go from there.

So, I could run Pilot Power CT2's and get some tire life and increase my skills?
Thanks for your input.
Thanks for the gearing help, too.

I usually use Michelin Power Race "PR" on my R6 for the track but I bought 2 sets of Dunlop Qualifiers from Jason Pridmore's school just because they were so damn cheap. I'm thinking about using them this year for trackdays/racing but I'm not sure about taking the step "down" from the PR's. I don't think it would matter at my current riding ability but it's a mental thing, you know?
Anyone have any experiences using Qualifiers?

.
Absolutely. The new CT2's are suppose to be badass. I'll be running them on my street bike I CR with. I was easily able to run 40's on my street bike with the pilot powers and I wasn't pushing it. (That is Pacific).
