I have an 02 gsxr 600, just spotted a leak in the oil pan due to the pipes touching. Is there a quick fix or should I replace the pan? If so anyone have a pan for sale?

A!

So the pipes wore through the oil pan?

It made contact near the drain plug. The hole is to small to see but it only leaks after the oil/ engine has reached running temp. I don't feel safe riding it until the problem is fixed.

What kind of pipe do you have on there? This is weird... I had an 01 with a full M4 system coated by performance coatings and never had any clearance issues.

I would take the pan off and get the hole welded shut. It should be cheaper than buying a new pan.

To help the welder out completely clean the pan and get all traces of oil and dirt off of it.

It's a simple fix. Since there is no pressure to speak of in the oil pan you can epoxy that hole shut with JBweld epoxy. Clean the pan well enough to eat cheerios out of! Just use soap and water to finish it up. If you're not willing to eat out of it, it's not clean enough. Then use acetone to prep the surface. A quick sanding will give the epoxy some "tooth" as the engineers call it, and then when it's completely dry apply the epoxy on the inside of the pan. The JBweld epoxy has a similar expansion coefficient to cast aluminum and it will handle the heat without a problem. Some engine builders use it to shape the ports and what not, so don't worry about its durability.

Then once you've fixed the leak or replaced the pan or whatever you're going to do... Fix the pipe clearance issue. Check the exhaust mount on the can. Most likely it's holding the pipe too high and causing the rubbing issue. You many need to replace or modify the mount. Good luck!

I keep forgetting about JBWeld. Good call Brian!

I had a little interaction with the tire wall in T2 at pacific with my gxxer 6 last summer and noticed the pipes touching the oil pan in a diff location (front corner). To fix the tweaked pipes i used wooden shims with all the header and bracket bolts loosened, then tightened every thing down with the shims in place. once shims revmoved desired clearnace was acheived. :)

Thanks for the tips guys. I had the full Leo system installed and one of the tubes made contact next to the drain plug on the left hand side. At least I have time to get ready for the next track day! This will cure my cabin fever....
