Just purchased an 03 CBR600RR. Can anyone give a soon to be novice racer some good solid advice? Common pitfalls, safety, maintenance, set up, etc...

Thanks and glad to be here,
Branden

Good choice on a bike :)

Seems everyone is on a Yamaha or GSXR... which just makes parts/spares harder to come by for us. I'm still slightly new to the bike as i jumped shipped from Yamaha recently, but if you need a hand with anything or need any spares just hunt me down at any of the events.

I have the same bike Mike Velasco and Dave Alexander over at the Brothers Powersports helped me out a lot with bike setup and motor work cause the bike is a dog in the midrange Dave Alexander owns fluid suspension and is at most of the races and at adrenaline freaks track days.Try to be at the track as much as possible and dont worry about all the bling bling until you run up front. Thanks guys. We plan on being at as many track days as we can. Your right... The midrange is super--doggish on this bike. This winter we're thinking power commander, full exhaust, and head mod that will allow a 50/50 race-premium fuel mix. Any input??

No bling here.... Flat black sharkskins is all. Not going to bring any unwanted attention to myself. My inexperience will do enough of that on its own...

Still some good track days left to try out the bike before winter. Only 2 WMRRA dates left though :(

We milled the head and degreed the cams and a valve job and that helped a lot also went up two teeth in the rear with a 520 conversion and also a power commander and pipe

Spend money on suspension first and motor second.

On my bike the suspension was blowing through half way then getting real stiff and the rear was topping out everywhere but I also weight 185lbs so talk to somebody that is good with suspension.

M- Who did your engine work? Forgive my ignorance, but are you referring to a 520 chain?

Who does the best suspension work for the money?

Thanks M. Lots of good info everybody..

Hope to meet all of you at the track soon. I'll be in a flat black-rattle can painted 85 Toyota van with a big gold police star on the side, pulling a homemade trailer, with a primered 03 CBR 600RR on it. I'm 6'2", 210lbs with a military haircut. Kinda goofy looking too.

Rock on,
