So I'm of a bit of unconventional build and therefore have trouble finding a jacket that fits well. My shoulders are about the right width for how tall I am (5'11"), but I wear size 30 jeans. All off the shelf jackets are way, way too wide in the midsection. Yeah they have straps and all that but it's still awkward and they don't fit right.

How to deal with this? Get a custom made? Where? Or are there outfits here in Seattle that can take an off the shelf jacket and trim it?

I'm all ears. Thanks!

I have a custom street jacket (2-piece suit, actually) made by the folks at http://www.zcustom.com. Kinda pricey, but I like it and it has served me well.

Hmmm.. I thought you'd need to go over to their facility for fitting, but seems like you can just take measurements and send that to them.

But still, for just a street jacket it's quite an overkill. I'd rather get something off ebay for a hundred bucks and pay another hundred for someone to make it a better fit..

It will cost you way over a hundred to get a stock jacket moded to fit. It was $130 for just my name sewed to the back of my race leathers.

Damn!!! On a whim I got this Icon Merc leather jacket off eBay and it showed up today.

Well, it fits reasonably well in the shoulders but there's room for at least another one like me everywhere else. I don't even think it's practical to try to alter it, way off base to begin with.

I'm 5'11" with fairly broad shoulders but I wear jeans with 29-30 waist (~140lbs). Everything is so damn loose or has short sleeves.

Aerostich is the only company I found that has stuff that comes in Long sub-size, and they do have street jackets. There's even one on sale for almost half the price now that is supposedly exactly my size. Looks way uncool but at least it should fit. Should I bite? I really don't want to wear track leather on the street, tired of that - too involving to get in and out of..

I have a 1-piece Roadcrafter for street duty so if they have something that will fit...I say get it.

Hmm... I think I'll bite. $465 for a custom jacket is not all that bad. 950 for a two-piece is not bad at all either.

Thank you!

If you do, please tell Meredith that Tom Marx sent you. It won't do anything for you, but should help me when I get my next suit. :D

Sure! Actually, it sounds like if not all protection/ventilation options are selected one can have a custom jacket for less than $400. More like $360, which is pretty much what a good manufactured jacket goes for. Good deal.
