Right in your price range and it is completely setup.
Hi Laura,
Even if Kie would come down to $5k for that 748, IMO you'd be better off with Thatman's F4 or maybe JPaulsen's SV650 just because the cost of running & maintaining the Duc (& repairing it, if it comes to that) will be higher and I know you're trying to work on a budget.
Nothing against the 748 -- fantastic bikes -- but that's just what I've observed with friends racing 748's & SV's & CBR's.
I'm a big SV fan myself, having spent 4 years racing one. They don't have enough power to be scary, so it's easier to learn to ride them hard.
One key thing to keep in mind is what class you'll end up in. If you buy an SV you'll be gridding up with ~10-12 bikes; if you buy a 600 like the F4 you'll be gridding up with 5 times that many. I don't know which you'd prefer -- I used to prefer the small grids but now I'm enjoying being in the melee of 45 bikes in the 750 classes. Either way, grid size is definitely something to consider when choosing your next bike.
Good luck.

this isn't actually for me - it's for a friend. I'm going to keep upgrading and riding my FZR...after lowsiding it this weekend, Louie finally agreed that the suspension needs revamped! If I were to upgrade bikes, I would probably go with an SV - I like my street twin, seems like a race twin would be logical!

D'oh! Ignore me then. :o
I thought I had seen you write elsewhere that you were thinking of moving on from the FZR, but I agree that it makes sense to stick with the bike you know and just make improvements to it. Good call.
