Yesterday Mike Tobin was involved in a crash at Pacific Raceways. He was injured pretty badly. The major injury involved a fracture of the T1 vertabrae, essentially a broken back. Luckily he has feeling and movement in all of his limbs and as of now there appears to be NO spinal cord injury.

I spoke with Laura, Mike's wife, and he is doing ok and will be getting surgery today or tomorrow to stabilize the T1.

Laura is requesting NO VISITORS and NO CALLS until after the surgery. I'll keep everyone updated via this thread on Mike's progress. Please respect this, I know how hard it is, but this is best for Laura at this time!

If you have any questions or would like to send your well wishes please send them to me at lukeonf4@hotmail.com or can call me at (206) 619-7981!

I pulled in to the pit entry/exit area the lap before waiting for my group to come by - so lucky I didn't have to experience that site.

Best wishes to Mike for a complete recovery.

Heal up quickly Mike. We know that you have a great family at your side right now, but if you need anything from the rest of the tribe please do not hesitate to ask.

UPDATE: I just spoke with Laura. Mike will not be getting surgery at this time. They are going to put Mike in a brace and start PT ASAP! In a couple of weeks from the time Mike leaves the hospital, they'll check for any movement, at that time they'll determine if surgery is the best option or not.

As for visitors, Laura is ok with visitors. As I know everyone will be please be respectful and don't take it personal if Laura or a family member asks you to leave.

Thanks,
Luke

Tobin was the only "expert" racer to come and introduce himself to me, the day of my first novice race.

My best wishes go out to him and for a speedy recovery.

This is me checking in. I was hit from behind at speed on the front straight at Pacific raceways in the 300 group where the 6 foot rule should be in place as mentioned at the riders meeting. This was not honored.
I broke my back and have some other issues from the incident but what I have come away from this is two fold.
1. track day riders drafting is fun and cool but if your judgement of speed is only from track days then I suggest you stay away from close drafting. I have lost my ability to ride daily and ride my dirtbike from some poor judgement. I am not angry just stating the facts.
2. My friends from the club and 2 fast made a really horrible experience amazing. Mike Corell, Big Mario, Lash, Wendy, Kat, Cole and Keith who sat with me on the track while I was in a very uncomfortable and painful situation made the difference for me.
3. The people in our community are amazing and I love my job at Bellevue Kawasaki/Bellevue Motosports. I love WMRRA I have never been taken from the track in an ambulance in 7 years of racing so I guess I have alot to be thankful for. The visitors to the hospital were awesome and the house visits were also quite comforting.

Hang in there Mike. Looking forward to seeing you again come the new season ( hopefully back on a bike!). You have a good attitude towards a sh###y situation, that will only help the healing process.

it's been quite awhile since this has been updated ... Mike has posted up on facebook that he has been out on the dirt bike and putting in some seat time lately. He also said he is looking forward to this race season so it sounds like he is doing great and well down the path of a great recovery. Thank God for that!

Hello Wmrra my club of choice!! I love our club and all the people in it and the old saying that stuff happens is quite true. I woulkd like to thank all my friends who have had a hand in my recovery physically and mentally.
I have been riding my street bike for about a month and have three rides in on my dirt bike. I have quite a bit my work to do and I am hard at it. I look forward to a full recovery and I think I can hear a certain warehouse calling my name.
The friends I have from being involved in this club has certainly enriched my journey look forward to seeing you all soon. Some of these friends I will have for my entire life. A special thank you to Adanm Fausset for rebuilding my bike and his continued support of my riding on all bikes!
Mike
