I think the list goes something like this...

#1 They minimize heat cycling, thus improving tire longevity
#2 They instill confidence for those first few hairball corners
#3 They make your bike look cool

#3 is the best part right lol.....

Ok so how do you go about picking out a set?

I use the Chicken Hawk Pole Position warmers -- they are expensive, but I like the 3-temp thermostat in them. I've heard great things about tyresox too, and they are like half the cost. Just my 2 cents.

So what are you guys running them with?

I am thinking about getting myself a little compressor and warmers...

Don't think a compressor will do you much good for powering up a set of warmers. A generator works good though but will cost you more than the warmers. An excellent use of funds if you are serious about going fast safely. Tire Bakkers are a good choice as they heat up quickly and consistantly. Another consideration is which tires you are using. Some tires take a long time to genereate heat if not using warmers. Pirellis will heat up alot more after only the warm up lap than most tires so warmers may not be necessary. Michelins take twice as long (imo). Dunlops I don't know about. Warmers certainly do allow you to go full on right from the start and are a nice luxury.

Just worried about heat cycles thats what I have been reading....As far as tires I am sticking with my PP's..The compressor I will use for airing up the tires, not sure what you use it for LOL. Probably gonna get a little honda gen. and a 5gallon tank for air then some chickenhawks...

When shopping for tire warmers and a little generator to run them pay attention to the wattage numbers. I bought Tire Bakers a few years ago, and one of the reasons I chose that brand is that they were advertising at the time that a pair of their warmers draws less than 1000 watts (850 iirc) so I could get by with one of the tiny EU1000 generators. That setup has worked well for me. I think some brands of warmers won't run on 1000.

Good point Tim -- last I looked into it, the CH Pole Position warmers had a claimed draw of 1300 Watts with both warmers on "high"... don't know if that's accurate or not. I have a Honda EU3000, which is a super-duty gen. and can easily handle warmers, (your buddy's warmers too) and a fan to keep you and the bike cool on hot days.

If you buy a loud generator, please point the exhaust noise at yourself rather than at your neighbors. It's only fair. :)

71db at 4feet at 75% load for the coleman...

59db at 7feet I dont know what load for Honda...

I am sure the honda is just that much better quality plus the extra watts will be good...

The Honda is definitely THAT much better -- quiet is the key though.

True, the Hawks take about 1200 watts to go; so be aware when shopping for a power source...More is always better in the Generator catagory.....

and of course what CHD said.... They look cool

Damn on the chicken hawks.

The TyreSox warmers only take around 700 watts.

Yeah, low electrical draw means we can run three sets with our honda generator and some other charging items in the pit with out any loss of heat.

Good price for club racing too... $175 a set.

I was going to say Tyresox only pull around 700 watts. I have those, and the Honda EU gennie. Wicked combo. I ran 2 sets of TS and a set of Bickles on the gennie with no issues, :D

I have to say, for the money and how well they work, the TS's win hands down. I love blasting into turn 1 and 2 with hot slicks.
