You had two examples:

Tophyr: '03 Cbr600rr, 16/41

Rick: 16/44 (it was a little off but not bad for exiting T4 and the bustop in second gear) and still had some room (extra rpms available)at the end of the straight. i just put on a 15/43 and hoping i will not be bouncing off the rev limiter in T1. let ya know after the march 2fast day

Common ground seems to be 15fr w/ a 43 or 41 rear. Stock is 16fr 43r so get a 15fr and ride it. If you're not happy adjust the rear tooth count in whatever direction (+ or -) you're wanting to improve.

Hope this is more help

There is no correct answer. Every rider is different. Its more of a preference than anything. The gearing will compliment your riding style. But the above should be a good starting point.

Also tire size. Are we riding a 180, 190, 200??? But as you get faster the gearing has to keep changing. Just like the suspension. It's always changing as riding gets better.

When you place that new front sprocket, it'll lengthen the wheelbase if you don't shorten the chain. Theoretical top speed with a 15/43 will be 138mph for your bike with a 180 rear tire. If you keep the same chain you'll have to lengthen your wheelbase by 0.15 inches. If you take 2 links off the stock 112 link chain then you'll need to shorten the wheelbase by 0.15 inches. And do you want a shorter or longer wheelbase for the track? Longer wheelbase = high speed stability ; shorter wheelbase = quicker turn in

It was a rhetorical question :)

yes, maybe. I can have a long wheelbase, but super short trail number. Is that bike going to be stable or not?

I'm no suspension guy and when things get complex I differ to a professional. But just changing from one tire brand to another, or one profile of the same tire can dramatically affect the suspension and the gearing.

One simple question, what gearing?, and we readily see that it's more complex than just that. This is what makes racing a motorcycle so much fun. Problem solving.
