Finally finished putting together my 600 race bike to bring to the track. Brought a buddy of mine along, figuring he'd run in 100 and I'd run in 200 and we could share the same bike. But they pretty much forcibly moved him up to 200, so I had to ride my street bike while he rode the 600 (gave it to him because it's less expensive to fix if he were to crash...).
About mid-day we finally got the camera set up in the nose of the 600 and got out on the track.
For those of you there in the 1:00 200 session, I apologize for killing that session for all of you.
Video turned out pretty cool, except for all of the bugs on the lens. I'm staged right in front of him at the start. There's a slow lap for tire warming, a whole hot lap, and then... well, you'll see. Stay tuned (http://procrasti-nation.net/media/offroading.wmv) to see me chop throttle in T1 to avoid someone and save the resultant high side, only to run all the way through the infield, across the track again in T2, and take a bike I still owe $11,000 on into the tire wall at a pretty decent speed. The funny part?: For a split second I thought that maybe I'd be better off jumping really high off the bike and trying to clear that dirt retaining wall behind the tires instead of slamming into it. Thankfully, I chose the tires.

Dang. You were pitted right next to me and I saw the bike. Didn't look too good but you seemed to fair pretty well.

CAT scan was fine, X-Rays were fine. My right wrist is REALLY sore and my left shoulder is really sore. Everything else is scrapes and bruises. My gear mostly got dirty, no damage. Bike wasn't as bad as I thought. Mostly cosmetic. Will need a complete new set of plastics, but I think I can get it like new for under $2500.
Must have ran into the tire wall head first or something because there's tire rubber all over the forehead of my helmet.
I was having the most fun day ever until that point. I'll be back...
Sorry again for cutting that one short. Wish I could have listened in on the rider's meeting that happened shortly after because of all of the crashes, but I was a little loopy.

Hey geddyt - thanks for making it out for our event! We appreciate the apology - we don't encourage crashing, obviously, but in the end all we care about is the safety of all of our customers and staff, and that everyone has a great time. You mentioned having fun up to the session where it all went wrong, and you walked away from something that could have ended up massively worse for both you and your motorcycle.
Glad to hear you're relatively ok - sounds to me like you have a set of track plastics now, so tape 'er up and come join us in June! Perhaps we can work on the situation that led to the incident so we can all learn from it and identify an alternative course of action.
Glad to hear you guys were having fun in the morning sessions! :)

Thanks Corey. Wish I could make it out in June, but I'm doing Sullivan school at PIR that day. That was my second day out to the track--both 2-fast--and I've had a blast both times. Even with the crash. It'll cost me a lot, but I made it out alright and therefore can't complain. Still was a hell of a day.

I noticed who ever was videoing that stopped on the track without a red flag and they stopped at the exit to turn 2. WTF?!?!?!?!
Please inform me who that is and what session this was so I never have to be on the track with that person.

You never will have to be on the track with him, don't worry. That was a buddy of mine on my other bike who I invited along for a single track day. He's not a regular. I guess he freaked out when he saw me hit a wall that fast and forgot the rules.

As long as he realizes this....

And I just realized I'm being an ass....
Glad you are coming out of that nasty crash alright. Seeing the dirt kick up in the video made it look like Superman was doing a low fly by.

I honestly thought about doing a superman. Coming through the infiled there, I got on the rear brake really hard and tried to just drag anchor to shed speed. It didn't seem to do anything. I still was going way over 100 after going through T2 aiming straight at the tire wall. I though, "I am still going WAY too fast to hit that wall!" So for a split second I wondered if I would be better off just jumping really high and taking my chances with what was on the other side of the fence.
Luckily, I decided a too-fast colliission with a known obstacle would be better than being impaled or whatever by an unknown obstacle and jumped off the bike as quick as I could to drag as much dirt as possible before hitting the wall.
As far as my friend goes, he knew he wasn't dong what he was supposed to do, but he saw what happened and was pretty sure I was dead and just totally lost it. I guess some event staff actually had to attend to HIM he was in such hysterics. I wasn't able to move for a while, so this probably added to his hysteria. Like I said, won't happen again.

We were very happy and suprised to see you walk away from that crash. I heard it described to me and was amazed to hear you got up and walked afterwords. Then after watching the video of your crash, its even more amazing. Very glad to see you are ok.
As far as your friend, well your friend wasn't in too much hysteria, he pulled a friggin monster wheelie between 4-5 and up the hill out of 7 as he rode away from the crash scene (escorted by one of our marshals un-be-knownst to him). One of our staff members (the escort) gave him a good ear chewing and he gave us some lame excuse. Please educate your friend on proper track rules and ettiquete before he comes back again. He seemed pretty immature which is not a good attitude for the track.
I don't mean to belittle your crash with the discussion of your friend. Again, I'm very happy to see you are ok and hope your bike isn't too damaged. I did hear that our guys had a fun time getting back on the track side of the tire wall! Hope to see you out again some time.
