I was there shooting. The afternoon race for the novices I was on the start grid, I have an awesome shot of you just as the light goes green and you sun your tire. Monster spray of water shooting up and your feet are not on the foot pegs yet. have yet to have taken a shot like that before.
You were at OMRRA too weren't you?

Sorry I didn't hit anything for you at OMRRA that you liked, that track is difficult to get variety from since it has all right turns pretty much an no elevation.

This one is the best of the 3 you posted. There are 3 reasons why.
1) Sweet timing
2) You can see the reflection of the people in front of him.
3) That bike is very pretty and it got trashed that race in turn 5.

*sigh* I know he crashed, one of my sponsored rides too :( Bill is doing ok, he is on crutches right now and is in Hong Kong for business, the bike is just rashed on the side, no parts damage. He still wants to make it to Spokane and start over on his Novice requirements.

Yeah, that was a lucky shot to be sure. I went to the grid to try to get shots I had not seen before and was lucky to have the camera aimed at him at the time.

Do you know if his ankle was actually broken or not? When he was leaving he said they think it could be then he commented about going to Hong Kong the next day. That would suck but as Bill Pittman said at the time (after he was knocked out) "That's the life of a racer".
BTW: The heats don't have to be done continuous...just totaled.

I agree it is a cool shot but if you don't mind can you please share why you like this one the most out of the other 3 shots?
Frankly all three of them are art. If feel if Brandon got a photo of me on the grid I would look like the happy go lucky dog. :)

No, it is not broken.
And it is Jim Pittman that was knocked out in the bus stop..Bill Broderick crashed into T5 ;)
As far as "art" goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure, I am just trying to add a dynamic that most photographers miss out on...the human side of racing. People working on the bike, the game faces, the thrill of victory looks, etc. So many "photogs" go out there hoping to catch crash shots (don't even get me started on that) and so many people look for photos showing that that the human aspect of racing gets lost. I am just trying to bring a bit of that into these shots. No it is not something like Eli floating a back tire through T5 or Mitchell backing it in down the hill into T3 like I have got before. But it is photos of you, and you guys are out here month after month (ok, with Nico it's more like week after week :) ) I don't want crash pictures of you, I know you, I know your S.O.'s, I know how much time you put into making your bike race ready.
</soapbox> hahaha
GREAT shots at the grid Brandon -- naturally, I like the one of me the best :) -- I was really sad to see Bill go off-track... we were dicin' a little bit there at the front. I'm glad he's ok and will return soon. Wow there were a good number of bikes off the track Sunday -- I hope EVERYONE is ok. It was slick out there. Can't wait to see more pics Brandon...
Cheers all!

For a number of reasons.
First, I have a bias towards b/w photos when the situation fits and this one it does.
Second, I just like how this reflects that very last second as you put the visor down and it's "game time". It's the transition time. The last seconds you have in your mind before "the game" starts. :D
It reminds me of back to when I played ball, kneeling down on your knee, setting your focus and then putting your helmet on. Because when the helmet went on, it was game time. Friends become competitors, enemies, and targets :D

Damnit I always say Bill Pittman when I mean to say Jim Pittman.

Never thought about the aspect of "game time" in that shot. Now that shot is cooler!

Brandon, great shots. One of these day's I'll get around to getting my crash pics from the previous weekend from you...
I have to say that the one of Sully is my favorite too -- but for slightly different reasons or at least culmulative to the 'Game Time' label. As I was working the caboose in the Open Supersport race, I got a good view of the T3 incident, and was rather bummed to see Mike taken out. I caught up with him a little later to see how he was doing and he seemed rather sullen about it all -- being taken out (again!), his R6 pretty well bashed up and I'm sure his body quite sore.
I caught him out of the corner of my eye as we were waiting to go out on the warmup lap for the restart at the end of the day. Right then, my already high respect for him cranked up a few more notches.
Grit.
I think Brandon captured the essence of it all with that shot: his steely gaze, crashed leathers, visor going down one more time for one more race at the very end of a long, hard day...
Quite awesome IMHO.

Brandon, I took a break from racing for a couple years and was just going through your gallery and wanted to comment. These are excellent photographs and they do capture what you're striving for which is way cool. You have a great talent.

Watch out tomorrow some time to see your shots of you and Eli dueling in T5 coming straight at me...some of my favorites and after seeing the photos at home later, a place you might not see me shoot in again. Hahhaa
Thanks a lot Musselman, looking forward to shooting at Spokane for my first time at the end of this month.
