March 17th 2Fast Season Opener!
We are looking forward to the March 17th season opener for us at Pacific Raceways and want to give out a little promotional info.
The WMRRA discount for 2010 is still on. Enter WMRRA10 into the discount coupon box and receive a $25 discount immediately on your order for your level 300 registrations. Its our way of saying thanks for all the support that the WMRRA gives us.
Even better for St. Patricks Day....bring something Green in honor of St. Patrick's day and we'll give you $5 of green back....yes a nice $5 spot! I know its not much, but hey, we gotta promote the Irish angle of this event somehow! I also think I may have to borrow Lash's kilt and do some kind of Irish toast at the end of the day or wear it during the riders meeting! Either way we are gonna have some fun!
You can register for the event here (http://www.2-fast.org/eshop/cart.php?target=category&category_id=261) and we hope to see many of you out there! We've had great success with weather for this March date for several years, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that it'll be great for next month.

as long as you run in 300 (advanced) group at the track day. Novice or not you are a WMRRA racer.

My wife thanks you for making this addiction more affordable.

The discount applies to ANY WMRRA licensed racer, novice or expert, who is registering for the Level 300 Expert session. The only time it doesn't apply is for students taking the WMRRA NRS. Hopefullly that clears up a little confusion.

was about to register for the NRS on this day, but i stopped because i have no idea what group a or b means. what's what?
btw, since i'll be preoccupied with the class that day, there will be a photographer filling in for juniormonkey. so everyone will still get awesome pictures which will end up in the dedicated 2-fast gallery here: http://photos.juniormonkey.com/2-fast

Group A and B are the same for the NRS.
Cool on the photographer; I will buy whatever he takes.

Yes, Group A & B have no difference. We set that up to simply break the group up if the numbers are high enough. Right now it looks like we have about 10 or so guys, so you'll all be in one group and the A & B designation is meaningless.
Looking forward to the event and it should be a fantastic day!

(unless of course the weather is guaranteed to be cold and wet)

dudes... if its cold and wet you still NEED this class to get your license.. plus.. it won't hurt to ride the track in less then desirable conditions. It will help prepare you in advance for a race that you might have to do in the rain.

I presume there will be someone doing trackside rain tire installations if needed that day, or is it required that rain tires be mounted and ready in advance?

Kinda....
There's always the Sully school and the later NRS.
I plan on NEVER racing in the rain. If I was racing for a championship or was sponsored I'd suck it up but since I'm not either, I will ride/race on a dry track and I'm no panic to get licensed.
Riding in the rain around Pacific on race tires is unsafe and an unnecessary risk for me and my bike.
Apologies in advance if the mention of rain has spooked anyone or angered the rain Gods.

all i can say is, racing in the rain/wet is an entirely new skill set and well worth your consideration.
I ran Michelin Pilot Powers on a wet track day last year and was amazed at the grip. I believe Rick sells these for $289 installed at the track. If you're new or on an SV there's really no need for full rains if you can't use them.

I agree that rain racing could be great training and probably quite enjoyable for some people - certainly no argument from me there.
For me personally, I had all I can handle at the STAR school at Portland last year - pretty much a rain out (maybe 2 sessions with full dry track) and I was hugely disappointed that all of that travel and expense was somewhat wasted doddling around tip-toeing through the rain. I ended up having what Damian Cudlin(one of the Instructors and Endurance Racer) called the "slowest highside" in history entering T4 or whatever the first left turn is. I was in second gear and practically putting around and the back end broke loose and the rest is history. I know dry racing also has it's challenges but right now at my skill set and point in life (married, father of two, mid-30's, commission based job so no worky = no income) I'd prefer to limit my exposure to as many variables as possible with rain being the major one.
The fun factor just isn't there for me on a bike in the rain either, it's more about surviving than pushing limits.
The cost of a set of 2ct's isn't the prohibitive factor either although on days like the STAR school last year - some riders made 4 swaps from wets to slicks during the day and for a guy who's as mechanically challenged as I am - that's not something I want to be doing on an on again, off again day.

What are you going to do if you spend all that money and time to come to the track and it starts to rain right before you go out?

" some riders made 4 swaps from wets to slicks during the day"
that was me... it sucked.. we couldn't get a wet track or a dry track.. it was a big waste of money for me too... I learned a bunch in the classroom, but I think everyone was really dissapointed with the track situation..

Another beauty of the power pilots.. they work pretty good in the rain or the dry :D btw, these are not 2ct's

If that happens I'll be the loudest cheerleader in the stands for whomever I'm rooting for! I'm not gonna cry over it as I'm aware that I can't control the weather so I'll put my energy towards changing things that are under my control like being ready for practice sessions, learning as much as possible from the mentors and instructors of the NRS, and of course I'll try to learn as much while on track from my fellow Novice Racers.
With regard to the Powers, I ran a set of those and a set of 2CT's at Pacific two summers ago. My experience on them was fairly good but I was just moved into the A group with NESBA and started to push them pretty hard and boy were they ever moving around on me. The CR - big guy on a funny painted ZX10R, pulled me aside after our session and said that he highly recommends me to swap for a DOT race set up before heading back out as they don't think that these tires are fit to run 1:38's or lower at Pacific although he did say that one of the CR's put down some 34's on a set BUT there's a huge skill differential between that CR and myself so I'd prefer to keep that buffer of DOT tires over a tire that the manufacturer even claims is an 80% street/20% track day tire.

I was hoping to not have to buy a set of spare wheels for rain tires before this March 17th track day, but I guess I will have to see if it can be done.

There will be someone mounting tires.
You dont want to have to worry about it if you're doing the NRS. You wont have time to be workin on your bike and do the class. Try to get everything done before getting to the track, it'll save you a LOT of stress.
For once, I too am hoping for dry conditions.

Yup, you're right!
My invoice has my wife's name on it though as she's the Paypal account holder in the house - do I have to wear a wig or can we change it on the reg form upon check-in?
Otherwise SHE'll be a new Novice racer dammit!
