I know that we novices have not had a lot of practice gridding for a start and it is nerve racking to find the correct postition left to right and also the correct line forward and aft but the last two weekends were completely pathetic. I noticed that a lot of guys were asking.... or what appeared to be asking... where their grid position is.
I am not trying to say that I have been in the correct position because I know on Sundays race, it was such a cluster f#$* that I just wanted to get a clean line, but look at the darn grid positions before the races at registration, and at the grid board to confirm it before entering the track. AND if you are in the middle of a line of five, your in the middle of the drag strip...
and four wide... spreddd the hell out. I did not see any improvement from the first weekend to Saturday or even Sunday.
We should be able to do this, it is not rocket science.
Thats my $1's worth.

I totally agree as I was sitting on the 3rd row in Sunday's heat looking at the space between the two bikes in front of me trying to figure out how I will fit through a space about a foot wide.

That's prett funny.... I was thinking the same thing toward the back of the second wave just hoping the hand of god would give me a path through five rows of bikes.. it all worked out though, got into third into turn one in our wave. ...

Yup. On Saturday I was sitting third row far right side (about 1 foot to the left of the white line). I made the mistake of going out basically first on the sighting lap so I gridded early. Then the dude in the row in front of me on the right side gridded basically right in front of me. Then didn't go right away when the light turned red so I just dropped the clutch and felt like I was taking off from a street light.
People wake up and pay attention where you are gridding....I know what to do next time (spoke to starting on this....put the hand up, and get the bike twisted some so my launch doesn't ass pack the guy in front of me. starting will wait until you are ready if your hand is up and you are moving around).

Now i've never been to spokane and I'm not sure if they have blocks for all of you to place you front tire in. But as far as pacific goes try and space each other as best you can. But if i'm being honest I think it's up to the person behind me to grid left or right of myself. There isn't anything set in stone besides being next to the cones. People have bad starts it happens. So space out and offset each other and all should be fine.

Spokane is the same as Pacific.
Here's my problem from Saturday. The row I am in was the row that is 5 wide (it went 5-4-5-4 etc). Why on earth would one think that when you are in a 4 row outside you should grid all the way to the outside? If I was to move then I would screw the person behind me, etc.
One thing I seemed to notice is the experts were almost gridding up waiting to do their sighting lap. Something I don't see the novices doing.

I stayed towards the back of the pack on the sighting lap for the reason of being able to place MYSELF in the right spot to not screw the guy in back of me out of his line IF I CHOWDERED my start and to also get aclean line if the guys in front of me(to the left and right and straight) chowdered their starts. BUT, what burns me is when I make damn sure there is enough room for my grid and all others around me and one of the guys inthe next front row, pulls up late and pulls right infront of me with no time for me to adjust my spot!

I spoke to starting about this. They said get your hand up and start to move the moment you see the problem. They scan the grid before they put up the board to check for any problems. so if you are doing this they won't start the race just yet.
