The Numb Bum 24 hour endurance ice race is north of Edmonton, about 950 miles from Seattle...

There are several clips on you tube.

Its really fantastic. About a 8-12 mile road course with lefts, rights. striaghts, and the signature corkscrew spiral. Its cut out on a frozen lake.

Temps range, but last year, when I got on the "B" bike at 2:30 AM it was -25degrees farenheit.

The IceHoles have been racing the Numb Bum since 1999.

Most of the racers are former or current road racers with a smattering of dirt bike and flat track racers thrown in for good measure.

Sounds like there is a limited amount of water/ice left in the bed of the lake, thus leaving the bowl of the lake available for transformation into a suitable ice racing surface. (spray water on hillside, poof, instant ice racing at -25 degrees)

Frozen Lake surface, I didn't mean to mislead you.

Its sooooo fun, an decreasing radius turn on the entry, just keep the back sliding a little on the way in, as the turn tightens, then pop the busstop style 180 in first gear and hit the gas on the increasing radius exit.... And a little more, little more, shift, more gas, little more gas, shift, all the way to top gear, the back sliding flat track style the whole way out!!!! has to be experienced to be believed! It is fun.
